Jesobel Vine wants nothing more than to be a typical Pyxian teenager. She wants to ride her horse, Firefly, shoot her bow, and fall in love with her dreamy best friend, Glyn. But Jesobel is marked not only as the future Royal Starkeeper of Pyxis, but as the Heart of Azimuth—the one to lead her people back to their lost realm—a burden too dangerous for daydreams. As Jesobel struggles to accept her destiny, reluctantly studying mystic magic, she becomes doubtful she will ever be worthy to rule. And when her fiery temper enrages the daemon-possessed Starkeeper of Equuleus with a hex-gone-wrong —igniting an orphic war—Jesobel must find a way to alter the global disaster foretold by a celestial legend.

~My Thoughts~

Quickbane is a magical story about a Pyxie girl who was born into purpose, but simply wants a normal life filled with love. She’s not at all interested in the tasks and teachings, she just wants the boy. But her destiny will not be cast aside so easily.

Far too much happens in this story for me to give you specifics. I could ramble on forever about it. But I can honestly tell you that Starling is a master of her craft. Her writing is so intelligent and fun, and the pacing of the story is spot on. The world building is beyond remarkable! Jesobel is an awesome character that I could relate to in many ways. She’s also a character worthy of admiration and respect; someone I would love for my daughters to read about when they’re older.

I’m not ashamed to admit I’m envious of what this author was able to create in this otherworldly tale. As you all know, epic fantasy is not my go-to genre because of its unfamiliarity, but Quickbane is a book that should not go unread. The prose is magical, the plot unique and the story evokes a full spectrum of emotions from the reader.

I highly recommend Quickbane to all fans of fantasy and magic! I’m so blown away by this authors talent that she’s been placed on my automatic purchase list. I’m confident her future books will be nothing less than extraordinary!

I’m totally in love with this cover but not only that the book itself sounds great. I haven’t read much High Fantasy in the past few years but I think I’d totally have to find time for this one at some point.
