Discussion Post: Do You Make Faces While You Read?

medium_4276332419

I recently realized that whenever I’m reading a description about someone making a face in a book, I actually attempt to make the same face. I wonder, at times, if some authors actually realize what it is they’re saying when trying to describe facial expressions. Is that strange? I know I’m weird, but the question is… am I weirder than everyone else?

For example: I was curled up on the couch last night and I read a line in a book that claimed the male character “bunched up his eyebrows, but his smile didn’t fade.” Maybe it’s just me, but try as I might, I could NOT make that face and feel sexy and the same time! Go ahead… try it. I’ll wait. Make sure you smile first, then try to bunch your eyebrows together. Do you feel like a big goofy ass? Yeah, me too. I just had my husband try it and he could easily be mistaken for Steve Martin in one of his earlier movies.

So tell me… do you make faces while you read? Or maybe there’s something else you do while you read that you’d like to confess here. No, not like that! Get your mind out of the gutter. It’s a little early for that kind of discussion. Maybe next time 😉
