Bound by Spells

Aidan Montgomery hadn’t been prepared for Amelia Bradbury to walk in and then out of his life. He also hadn’t expected to find the powerful magic hidden deep within him for the last nineteen years, but he’s embracing it — finding more control and more answers every day. Now, with the help of Amelia’s best friend, Bethany, Aidan is on a quest to understand his destiny and find Amelia.
Amelia decided to stand by her duty, which meant walking away from her first chance at love. Trapped in Cresthaven at the Queen’s mercy, she spends her days with Micah — an ally she still holds at arm’s length — struggling to manage her heartbreak while keeping her mind focused on the task at hand. As she continues to unlock the secrets of the Keeper power, Queen Julia’s true motives reveal themselves, forcing Amelia to decide, yet again, how much she’s willing to sacrifice.
Will Aidan get to Amelia before it’s too late, or will the very power that sustains them keep them apart?
Social media is an interesting beast. As an author, you can’t not do it. Sometimes you think it is sucking the life right out of you to be fun and pithy every day, and then there are days where it is utter and total magic. Those days are when new readers message or post with amazing and often happy-tear-inducing messages, sometimes your readers post fan art that shows they totally get everything about your crazy characters and sometimes, in very rare instances, a fan posts something entirely random on your page that sparks your passion.
One day in March, this appeared on my feed:
“I also have an undying love of Taylor swift like you do…and watching the “shake it off” video I realized, she looks just like you with blonde hair! I think you should do a lip sync video! I would love it, as I’m sure all your fans would!” – Crystal
And then, my friends, it was sheer madness. I downloaded the lyrics. I broke them into segments and mapped out scenes. I watched the real “Shake it Off” video at least twenty times to figure out which outfits and movements I might be able to mimic. I brainstormed ways I could involve my fans. I got said fans to give me their photos without knowing why, and still being cool with me using them. I asked my industry friends if they wanted to do cameos and was thrilled to have a few of my fellow Rebel Writers, book tubers Sasha (abookutopia) and Ben (Benjaminoftomes) and NYT best seller Jessica Park all get behind my project.
And now, you’re seeing it here first because Toni was one of the first bloggers to support Bound by Duty and she’s been an awesome advocate for me.
If you thought my little bit of randomness was fun, consider sharing it on your social feed. Who knows, maybe we could get my artist idol to take notice?! I find Taylor to be a total class act and a woman who has taken on the responsibility of true artistry, being business savvy and having a giant heart. Those are all things I want to be known for myself and I’d love it if she got a laugh at my ode to being an author.
Have an awesome week, and let me know what you thought in the comments here, or on YouTube. ☺
~About the Author~
Stormy Smith calls Iowa’s capital home now, but was raised in a tiny town in the Southeast corner of the state. She grew to love books honestly, having a mom that read voraciously and instilled that same love in her. She knew quickly that stories of fantasy were her favorite, and even as an adult gravitates toward paranormal stories in any form.
Writing a book had never been an aspiration, but suddenly the story was there and couldn’t be stopped. When she isn’t working on, or thinking about, her books, Stormy’s favorite places include bar patios, live music shows, her yoga mat or anywhere she can relax with her husband or girlfriends.
