Fortune favours…the DEAD!
Some secrets are too horrific to ever be forgiven, and some people should never be trusted.
Tortured, starved and on the run, Nina thinks she’s faced the worst that mankind has to offer, but she’s wrong. She may have survived this long, but she’s not come out of it unscathed, and there’s worse to come.
Nina’s trusty Doc Martins are showing signs of the zombie Apocalypse, and she isn’t faring much better. With her snarky attitude guaranteed to get her in trouble, Nina needs to forgive the past, and to live once more in the present, and learn that sometimes she needs to place her trust in other people.
Because when people are faced with the end of times, they’ll do anything to survive.
Odium II begins with a heart attack in the making! I was immediately consumed by the intensity of the opening scene and became highly agitated every time I had to put the book down before devouring the last word. This seems to be a pattern with Claire’s books, and you won’t hear me complaining about it. The Dead Saga series is at the very top of my “favorite reads” list, not only in the horror genre, but overall. I loved both Odium and Odium Origins, and Odium II is even stronger. This series just keeps getting better and better!
Claire C. Riley is the kind of author that knows precisely how to pull readers in and keep a kung fu grip on you until the very end. Her spunky personality comes across in her stories, which makes them such a delight to read — which seems an odd thing for me to say considering the type of books she writes, but it’s the truth. I love her writing style. I can relate to it. I become wholly absorbed by it.
Odium II begins by showing us exactly what Mikey, Nina, and Emily have been up to since we last saw them in book one. To say they’ve had a rough go of it would be quite the understatement. Nina is severely tortured by The Forgotten and is left in solitude to ponder the fates of Mikey and Emily. The vibe in the beginning of this story is so deep, dark and twisted, and that’s before the zombies even come into play.
In Odium II we meet a new cast of secondary characters. I mean, after what has already happened there would have to be, right? At first I was kind of pouty about meeting new folks because, well.. that’s just how I am, but Claire does a fabulous job of breathing life into her characters, so it didn’t take long before I was on board with the new way of things. She’s also very adept at making me look like this while reading her books…
Claire spares no details when it comes to her deaders, including the rancid stench which you can practically taste. Between the imagery of the throngs of rotting corpses, the character development that swiftly forces the reader to want to know more about these people, and the non-stop, hand-over-your-chest, try-like-hell-to-breathe-normally-so-you-don’t-faint action that fills these pages, Odium II is a horror lovers wet dream. I can’t get enough of this series. I’m a little miffed that I’ve already read it because I want more right now! Yeah, I’ll admit it.. I’m really freaking jealous of all of you that still have this next story to look forward to. Buckle up, baby.. it’s one hell of a ride!
Claire, you better be in your writing cave!
