They say a soul is the immaterial essence, the animating principle, the actuating cause of an individual life.
But what if you had to share yours with the one person you hated the most?
The soul mate principle states that for every one soul there is another that will recognize its match, hence creating the perfect union.
But what if you had two soul mates, which would you choose?
What if your choices had eternal ramification?
Deceived, the debut novel in the Soul Keeper Series, is a modern day love story about the implications of having more than one soul mate, and having to choose between the two of them. The decisions of the gods has left the next generation, their heirs, torn between fate and reality, and the balance of the future hangs in anticipation of what’s to come.
Normally I’m pulled in by the cover of a book and rarely read the entire synopsis, if I read it at all. But I have to say it was the opposite for me with Deceived. The cover didn’t scream at me or wave its non-existent arms to get my attention, but I’d run across the book several times and the synopsis is what finally reeled me in. Did you read it? I’ll wait if you haven’t. Go ahead, take a moment.
How could not want to read the book after a synopsis like that? I know many authors despise blurb writing, so I was highly impressed with the pull this one had on me.
Ok, let me start by saying this author really knows how to write characters. Getting to know them was one of my favorite parts of reading the book. Mythology is not at the top of my list of favorite genres, but I do really enjoy it now and then when it’s done well. The story has a beautiful flow to it, giving the reader no time for distractions. Once you open the book, you’re as good as done for. Make sure there’s someone else in your house to fetch dinner or you’ll surely forget.
I love romance in any story, regardless of genre, and especially when I find it hiding somewhere I least expect to, but be prepared… this book gushes romance. I think I was expecting it to be more about the paranormal with romance, but this is the opposite. That said, it’s still an awesome story and I will certainly be reading the next book in the series. Yep, I already have a copy.
If you love complex characters, a smoothly written paranormal tale, and loads of romance, I highly recommend adding Deceived to your TBR list!
