In a world where a virus has spread turning most of the population into flesh eating monsters, there are two friends partying it up in New Orleans when the infection hits. Far away from home, they are trapped and trying to make sense of all that has happened with the help of new friends and enemies along the way.
Zombies aren’t the only thing to fear…
This Would Be Paradise is a great post-apocalyptic tale. The story begins with Bailey waking up in a hotel room completely hung over. She and her friend, Zoe, had been engaging in some Mardi Gras shenanigans in celebration of their recent college graduation. They’re a long way from home in BC, Canada; not the greatest scenario for when the zombie virus hits. Could you imagine being thousands of miles away from home when shit hits the fan? The action starts quick, making it easy to get sucked into the book.
I admit, the first few chapters were a bit long-winded and clunky, but the zombie action kept me turning the pages and I’m really glad I kept at it. The story begins to flow freely and everything falls into place. I enjoy reading about the early stages of the zombie apocalypse and about how the characters react to and handle it. I was screaming in my head, “No! Don’t go to the hospital! Never go to the hospital!” but it certainly pays off for the reader. Such a gruesome scene that steadily ramps up and sends adrenaline screaming through the veins. That’s when I knew I was hooked. There was no putting the book down after that.
The story continued to develop at a great pace and really held my attention until the end. If I can’t hear my kids arguing as they’re running from room to room, trust me it’s a good book. The cast of characters grows as the duo tries to survive and we get to know some interesting folks. It takes a village, right? The entire plot is filled with nail-biting anxiety, some really horrifying bits, and thoughtful jabs of witty humor. I love the author’s sense of humor! Minutes went by like seconds and before I knew it I was looking for the second book in the series.
I highly recommend this book to all fans of post-apocalypse/horror/zombie genres. It’s a great start to the series and I can’t wait to start reading the next book.
~About the Author~
N. D. Iverson is a young author trying to find her niche in the world. She has a business degree; to which she is still trying to find a practical application for. She has bounced from half-baked ideas of becoming a forensic pathologist (cut short when the option for attending an autopsy came up and she rather quickly decided maybe that wasn’t for her), a member of a rock band (sadly, neither she nor her friends could play instruments or sing, not that it’s a requirement these days…) and many more.
This Would Be Paradise is her first completed book, which has started a chain reaction of one-too-many book ideas dancing around in her head. She plans on wrangling in these ideas and making full fledged books from them. So keep an eye out on the horizon for more works to come!
